Next Up: Open Studio!
This is the day of the month where we open our doors and accept appointment-free walk-ins. Bring in a single item with minor issues for an on-the-spot mini-mend, drop off your whole mending pile for pick-up at a later date, or just come say hi and check out the studio. We love to meet new people and chat about sewing and sustainability!
Check out our Instagram highlight for how to prep your pile and invite your friends through the Facebook event.
Can’t make the event but have your mending pile ready to go? You can always schedule a drop-off with us at our Church Hill studio location or Eco Inspired, our Southside drop-off and pick-up location. We even accept mail-in mending!
Dye-ing to Donate? Here are 2 calls for items you may have!
We’re accepting avocado pits for a natural dyeing project. Please bring any pits you have to spare to this event!
We had the pleasure of hosting Maya at our May Top Stitch & Friends event, a one-of-a-kind garment upcycler. One thing she’s having trouble sourcing is size small men’s long-sleeve button-down shirts.. If you have any you’d be willing to donate, please bring them to us at Open Studio to give to her!
Let's get your mending off your to-do list and through our door! Our studio is located at 401 N 23rd St. in the Church Hill neighborhood of Richmond, VA. There is typically ample street parking within a block or two.
Accessibility: There is a 5” step up to enter our sewing studio.
Open Studio
Open Studio is a monthly walk-in day where you can drop off your mending pile, have a single item with a simple repair -aka mini mend- fixed on the spot, or check us out to see what we're all about!
They typically are the second Saturday of the month from 11am - 3pm. We LOVE meeting new people, sew don't be shy and come say hi!
Follow us on Instagram for any updates or changes to the schedule.
-
Mini-mends will be available based on busyness levels. If you have a single item that needs one small mend (i.e. missing button, hook, tack, or tear *on seam*), we will do our best to fix it on the spot.
If it's busy, you may want to walk over to one of our amazing neighbors like Union Market or Pizza Bones, to have lunch while you wait.
Please prep any item you have as listed below in How to Prep Your Pile.
-
Be sure to prep your pile by washing your clothing, marking the damaged areas (next to / not on top of) with tape, safety pins or a detailed note.
Pop those clean items into a tote or grocery bag and label it with your name and contact info. Now you are all set to swing by!
**Remember, anything with moth holes MUST be put in a ziplock bag in the freezer for a minimum of 72hrs before drop off. Please bring these item(s) still inside their ziplocks- thank you!!
Are you a business with a passion for sustainability, reuse, or skill-sharing?
We would love to talk about hosting your business at an upcoming pop-up. Please reach out if you are interested or have a recommendation for who we should feature next at ‘Top Stitch & Friends’!
