Next Up: Open Studio!
Come visit us for our December Open Studio—our last walk-in event of the year! Since our mending calendar is fully booked through December, we’ll be offering on-site mini-mends only at this event.
We’re also excited to welcome Glue Craft Studio, who will be hosting a low-waste gift-wrapping station! Amy & Vanessa are raising funds to open their creative community space right here in the neighborhood, where they plan to offer studio craft time, classes, workshops, parties, and more. Bring any gifts you need wrapped and enjoy their imaginative, low-waste solutions—for pay-what-you-can donations.
Since we can’t take full piles or larger repairs in December, you can schedule your January drop-off for your full mending stack or more extensive items here. We’ll still be offering on-the-spot mini-mends and would love for you to come by to say hi, chat about sustainability or your most recent sewing project.
Check out our Instagram highlight for how to prep your pile and invite your friends through the Facebook event.
This is a FREE event, with no registration required.
Our studio is located at 401 N 23rd St. in the Church Hill neighborhood of Richmond, VA. There is typically ample street parking within a block or two.
Accessibility: A foldable wheelchair ramp is available upon request, as there is a 5” step up to enter the sewing studio. Please note that the front doorway is 32” wide and the bathroom doorway is 22” wide.
Open Studio
Open Studio is a monthly walk-in day where you can drop off your mending pile, have a single item with a simple repair -aka mini mend- fixed on the spot, or check us out to see what we're all about!
They typically are the second Saturday of the month from 11am - 3pm with a summer break in July. We LOVE meeting new people, sew don't be shy and come say hi!
Follow us on Instagram for any updates or changes to the schedule.
-
Mini-mends will be available based on busyness levels. If you have a single item that needs one small mend (i.e. missing button, hook, tack, or tear *on seam*), we will do our best to fix it on the spot.
If it's busy, you may want to walk over to one of our amazing neighbors like Union Market or Pizza Bones, to have lunch while you wait.
Please prep any item you have as listed below in How to Prep Your Pile.
-
Be sure to prep your pile by washing your clothing, marking the damaged areas (next to / not on top of) with tape, safety pins or a detailed note.
Pop those clean items into a tote or grocery bag and label it with your name and contact info. Now you are all set to swing by!
**Remember, anything with moth holes MUST be put in a ziplock bag in the freezer for a minimum of 72hrs before drop off. Please bring these item(s) still inside their ziplocks- thank you!!
